Art As A Channel Fear Can Pass Through

July 07, 2024

Fiorenza Pancino, who will be visiting FormaClay as part of the Artist In Residence program. Fiorenza will speak in English and Italian with the translator at her side and will talk extensively about the theme of her residency project, Fear.

We will begin with a short walk to Lake Harriet to spend time in nature, to walk and breathe and experience silence and consequently depth within ourselves. Upon our return to the studio we will begin drawing and writing. The important thing remains the experience and the action we will take, without judging the aesthetic and formal result. We will look at the drawings together and read your words. The objective of the discussion is to delve into the theme of fear and create a collective work which will help transcend that emotion.

Finally, we will begin hand-building with ceramics. Fiorenza will present you with many questions that you could ask yourself, with the aim of translating the emotions and thoughts into a tangible form. The work will subsequently be fired and glazed by the artist and we will see the birth of a collective Mantra. It will be later shown at Forma Clay or at a place TBD.

The workshop will take place over two days with 3 hours on Saturday and 5 hours on Sunday plus a one-hour lunch break in the middle.

Your class fee will go to support the development of a new artist in residence program at Forma in partnership with our nonprofit partner Esperienza.

Fiorenza Pancino was born near Venice, but has lived and worked in Faenza for over 20 years. Fiorenza’s art explores the deep and complex dynamics of interpersonal relationships, human frailties, the unconscious and the relationship with the social environment. Recent projects include an International Ceramic Residency at Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute, China and at Ceratekno, Toki, Japan. Fiorenza has exhibited at the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art, Rome, at the Sogo Museum of Art in Yokohama in Japan, at the International Gyeonggi Ceramic Biennale in Icheon, South Korea and at the the Cantir Museum in Argentina in Spain.
