In this 8-week intermediate throwing class, we’ll focus our studio time on practicing the core elements of various drinking vessels—cups, mugs, tea bowls, and more. Learn to design and execute forms from sketches, explore details in rim and foot choices, and, of course, practice pulling and attaching handles. Proficiency in these elements adds up to a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. The goal of this class is to expand your ability and awareness of these everyday functional forms, which you can carry forward and build upon further in your own studio practice. Students ideally already have the ability to center, throw, and trim 1 pound of clay (reasonably well) without needing supervision.
